It provides you with the convenience of washing various kinds of dishes like- large pots, baking pans, casseroles etc. A kitchen sink is also known as hand basin or wash basin. There’re many types of kitchen sink available in the market right now. They’re built with different types of materials.

Installation Type:

Depending on the installation type, a kitchen sink can be categorize into two sub category: 1) Top mount and 2) Bottom mount or under mount.

1) Top Mount: 

These are the most common types of kitchen sink you can see in most of the household. They’re also called by Drop-In, or Self-Rimming Sink. These’re very easy to install in your kitchen cabinet. If you’re a do-it-yourselfers you would love to install it. The top mount kitchen sinks are also budget friendly compared to their rivals.

2) Bottom mount or under mount:

Typically they’re installed at the bottom of the kitchen cabin. The under mount kitchen sink is not as popular as like the Top mount. However, few people like this type of sink for their attractive design. Moreover, they’re more user friendly and easy to clean as well.

Built-in Materials:

As we said earlier that a kitchen sink may built with different materials. In this section we will be discussing about various kind of kitchen sink and their materials:

1) Stainless steel sink:

Almost 90% of kitchen sinks are built with stainless steel. They're lightweight and easy to clean. It gets easily fits with most of the kitchen cabinet.

2) Granite sink:

This type of kitchen sinks are made by granite which supposed to be more durable and scratch resistant when compared to other sink type. They’re comes in different colors. You can choose according to your own color preference. However, they’re more expensive than the stainless steel sink. The biggest drawback of this sink type is that, if you do get a scratch in it, it’s nearly impossible to fix it.

3) Porcelain kitchen sink:

They come with classic look and are the most expensive and heaviest one. Sometimes, they’re so big that they don’t even fit in your sink cabinet. You can get them around $500 to $1500.

Number of basin:

Depending on the number of basin available, a kitchen sink can be classified in two types, they’re 1) Single Basin sink 2) double basin sink. Let’s discuss about them in brief:

1) Single Basin sink:

This types of kitchen sink comes with a single piece of basin. They’re ideal for washing larger kitchen dishes at a time. They’re perfect for busy commercial kitchen.

2) Double Basin sink:

As the name suggest, they come with dual basin for multi-purpose uses. You can use both part of the sink for various purposes.
